This is quite as feature rich as Kdirstat and provides you with several different views of your disk to easily track down those large files. In addition to the ability to scan individual folders and/or the entire filesystem, you can also scan remote server and filesystems. I am not sure what you think of Ncurses, but it can be quite helpful when you do not have a working X. It seems to be quite fast, but i would suggest choosing a couple of directories from the / (root) at a time rather than the whole file system, but then it depends on the size of the hard disk. For example, clicking on the largest block will immediately show you the file in the directory tree. In addition to the classical tree list view of the files, it also provides an alternate view called Treemap that allows you to visualize the file sizes and access it easily. The foremost reason of finding the largest files is to know whether they can be deleted in order to reclaim disk space. Then again, I have always found Windows a bit slow with some file operations (especially moving and deleting) compared to their Linux equivalents.Quite often you have to find large files in your system so that you can clean it up and reclaim some of the disk space. There is a similar feature built in to Ubuntu and it is pretty responsive by comparison.

I suspect this is probably more to do with Windows than the application itself though. Unfortunately it seems a bit sluggish on Windows - it took nearly twelve minutes to scan all 48 gigabytes of my primary partition.

I like to keep as much free space on my primary partition as possible to avoid hurting performance. Perhaps I should clear out more - my user profile would be better off on the much larger D: drive for instance with the rest of the data files. In the end I managed to clear out about seven gigabytes of disk space. In my case, the worst offenders appeared to be Google Desktop Search, two gigabytes of photos that I no longer need, and stacks of backup files and things. You can easily drill down through your directories - it lists the biggest ones first - and zoom in on anything particularly horrendous.
